How does it work?
Initial Steps – A Personal Inventory
The foundation of JMPS Career Check is to know more about you.
Money
How much do you need, how much have you got?
Career Patterns
What have been the themes in your career so far? Do they point in any particular direction? Are there any particular career anchors that you should stay with?
Achievements
What has really satisfied or dissatisfied you during your career to date? What would you like to do again? What should you avoid?
Skills
What skills and competencies do you have and how are these transferable? Where are your areas of weakness?
Time
How is your time spent? How would you like to spend it?
Desires
What do you really want in life and career? Which of your main desires are currently being satisfied, or not? Why is this?
Dreams
Do you have a dream or fantasy as to what you would like to do? Is that dream feasible?
Feedback
What do others think your strengths/weaknesses are? Do they agree with what you think? What would they do if they were you?
It is the pulling together of the various parts of JMPS Career Check and the journey of each part in itself which is so individual to everyone who completes it, and what makes JMPS Career Check so different, person specific and successful.
Creating your Personal Career Template
- As you work through the inventories listed above they are summarised into your Personal Career Template which presents the ideal situation which will satisfy most of the important issues which you have highlighted through the process.
- The more precise the information you input the deeper, fuller and more specific the Personal Career Template will be.
- Your Personal Career Template can then be held against your current situation, planned job/career change, or proposed future direction to see how closely it compares with the idealism of your Personal Career Template. Where there is a mismatch you can then begin to develop plans to move towards these ideals.
- Once you have submitted your information to us an experienced Career Coach will review your data (Gold and Diamond Accounts only), and add their comments. You will then be able to develop your goals and a clear view of your way forward.
Planning for the Future
- In the preceding inventories you will have developed a very accurate snapshot of where you are now and what your current and perceived future preferences area; you now know a lot about who you are and have a general idea of where you want to go from here. You must now define your goals and develop a plan to achieve those goals.
- Career development can take many forms, promotion to a higher level of responsibility is one way of developing but it is not necessarily available to everybody.
- Forward may be through enriching your current position or by acquiring new skills. Swapping status and perhaps salary for quality of life may also be a possible solution, as may be undertaking lateral movement in order gain experience for future use.
- Options may lay outside of the organisation in a variety of forms.
- Once you have developed and submitted your goals your Career Coach will review them (Gold and Diamond Accounts), and add their comments which you will be able to see online and to print.
